Student FAQs about the GED 2002

Q: Are the questions on the practice test the same as on the real GED?
A:
The practice questions are taken from a separate pool of questions. These questions are very similar to the questions you will see on the test.

Q: If I haven't passed all the parts of the test when the new GED comes out, do I have to take the whole test over again?
A:
Yes, when the new test comes out on January 1, 2002 no partial scores from the old test will count anymore.

Q: If I fail part of the new GED will I have to take the whole test over?
A:
No, if you fail part of the new test you will only need to retake that section.

Q: How long do I have to study before I can take the test?
A:
This is up to each individual. If you go to a GED Prep program they will be able to help you determine this.

Q: Is the new test going to be harder than the old test?
A:
The new test is going to measure different information than the old test. It will focus more on problem solving and interpreting data than the old test.

Q: Is the GED the same as, or as good as a high school diploma?
A:
Yes, as a matter of fact, 1 of every 3 high school graduates could not pass the GED test.

Q: Is the new GED test going to cost more than the current test?
A:
Maybe. As of now, there has been no decision made on whether the testing fee will increase.

Q: Can I use a calculator on the math test?
A:
On the current test no calculators are allowed. When the new test is released on January 1, 2002 you will be able to use a calculator on some of the math questions.

Q: Will I have to buy a calculator before I take the test?
A:
No, a calculator will be provided to you to use when you take the test.
