Phasing Into the New GED 2002:
Overview

The Phasing into the New GED 2002 Training Series has been developed for adult educators to meet the identified need for intensive training and resources for the new GED 2002. To do this, the Central Illinois Adult Education Service Center has developed a two part series.

Description of the Series
Part I Phasing into the New GED 2002: Preparing Students to Think Critically provides a general overview of the GED 2002 and provides teachers with tools and strategies to assist students in the preparation for the new GED. Critical thinking abilities will be assessed in the GED 2002, so strategies to strengthen these skills are the focus of Part I.

Part II Phasing into the New GED 2002: Understanding the Changes to the Test provides a more comprehensive description of the new GED as well as demonstrates how to apply the teaching strategies and tools introduced in Part I.

Resource Package Tools
Each series includes a manual, videotape, and websitecreated to assist adult educators as they prepare their students for the GED 2002.

  • Two manuals provide a comprehensive framework to assist teachers with the teaching strategies, thematic planning, and integrated lessons development. In addition, a detailed overview is provided on the content areas of the new GED, the tests, the standards, and assessment.

  • Two instructional videos serve as a companion piece to the manuals. These videos also provide an overview and background information on the GED 2002. In addition, they offer simulated vignettes of teaching strategies that will help prepare teachers for the new GED.

  • The website supplements all the training materials in the resource package. It is anchored to the CIAESC website and can be accessed for project overview, updates, resources, technical assistance, and collaboration opportunities.
